This
free-standing fireplace always looked like an afterthought in the open living
and dining area. When Archimedes Granite installed a new kitchen counter system,
a platform was created in the same stone for the fireplace and it not only
raised the stove to a more effective level, it tied in the kitchen and dining
areas with the livingroom.
When
the new owners of the Cass House in Morro Bay installed an antique wood-burning
stove in this fireplace, black marble was installed to fill the gaps between
the fireplace opening and the outside edges of the stove. Archimedes Granite
also created a hearth to further extend the fireplace into the room.
This lovely,
ornate fireplace was actually created by combining an antique firebox with
an antique cabinet. It is still under restoration and will include hand-painted
tiles in the vertical white areas.
The addition
of the black marble created a flow between the pieces and gave a common base
to the design.
Before
and After -- A dated, brick fireplace takes on a new, contemporary look and
changes the entire room ...
This
brick fireplace and hearth is typical of fireplace construction of the 50's
and 60's. Not only was it awkward in appearance, it dated the room and made
decorating difficult. The owners wanted to find a solution that wouldn't mean
tearing out the entire fireplace and wall.
Believe
it or not, this is the same fireplace after re-designing and fabrication was
done by Archimedes Granite.
Because
the drywall "skin" was not completed at the time of our installation,
we digitally portray the finished lookof the surrounding wall here.
This
view is included to give a view of the brick that has been re-faced. The owner
will paint it in a dark charcoal color to tie it in with the new granite facing.
